Apocrypha Studios attending HAL-CON 2011

Apocrypha Studios
An independent Atlantic Canadian studio venturing into the field of imaginative storytelling RPGs, Graphic Novel and Fiction publishing.  The studio is gearing up for their next big project, a multi-media release centred around the setting of Eden Falls.  At HAL-CON 2011, Apocrypha Studios will be running their first official playtest of their Providence System within the Eden Falls setting.  Players will have a chance to create their own characters within a desecrated and doomed vision of the modern world, and fight for their very souls in a blend of survival / psychological / action horror.  As an official playtest of Eden Falls, all players will have their names in the credits of the Eden Falls RPG as playtesters, and there will be some sweet APOC swag to be given away.

Eden Falls:
a game of Choice and Ignorance, Consequence and Horror, Revelation and Judgement.

An interactive storytelling game, Eden Falls takes place in a world that has been judged and found unworthy.  Abandoned, all fight over the diminished resources of creation, and players struggle with powers both greater than themselves and within themselves, with their Soul as the ultimate prize.  Life and death are merely one of the wars that can be waged in Eden Falls, with Madness and Sanity, and Damnation and Salvation being just as important and just as deadly.  Governing the setting is the Providence System; a system of simple foundation, but intuitive expansion to fit any situation.  The Providence System also reflects the setting in providing thematic reasons for surprising rolls of the dice, and using a standard system of combat for physical, mental, and spiritual conflict.

With but the first step did stumble and taste,
Offering innocence to the sweet forbidden,
To gain eyes forced wide and scoured by the All,
Pained by what could no longer be seen.

And with bitter wept eyes did I see.

Angels wielding weapons of savage desperation,
Shadows of abject hunger slithering through cracks,
Hands raised in need of a once more blind eye,
Above and below a burnt black firmament,
Across ash fields of a paradise nowhere.

Removed from His sight,
Without Grace of the Word,
All fight over but a shattered sphere.

In this garden of ruin and despair,
All are forsaken!

Eden Falls & HAL-CON

Almost a decade ago I had a vision for a setting while studying theology at STFX.  The setting had a name that came to me, Eden Falls, and it has been stewing and rooting and festering away in my mind ever since.  I created Apocrypha Studios and the Providence System with Eden Falls as the goal.

It is time to begin...

Apocrypha Studios has begun writing up the system references for Eden Falls.  We plan to run a playtest of the system and setting on RPOL immediately [http://rpol.net/game.cgi?gi=47932].  We will also be attending HAL-CON in November to run an official playtest of the system and setting (players will get credit in the final RPG corebook).

Revised Providence System

This past year Apocrypha Studios has been revising and streamlining the Providence System to prepare for our next big project.  Playtesting was done using Feder & Schwert's amazing RPG setting Engel.

And now it is ready for the next evaluation phase.

Apocrypha Studios has compiled the system reference notes from their online RPOL Engel game.
It can be downloaded for free here:  http://www.huntandkillam.com/apoc/ENGELAPOC.zip

This is free to use and distribute, of course to really enjoy using it in a game of Engel, you'll need to buy the Engel RPG, but the system is there to be pursued and used.

Let us know what you think.

Join us for an online Engel game using the system.

The Sign Up

So we have gotten into Eclipse Phase, running games and playing at RPOL.
We have also gotten into writing some fiction and planning out storylines set in the EP universe.

Just recently a group of fans released the first issue of an Eclipse Phase fanzine, The Eye at:

Hunt & Killam had a short story get pushed through some deadlines in order to have The Sign Up published in the first issue!

You can download the first issue of The Eye for free here:

Apocrypha Studios gets into Eclipse Phase

Its not often that an RPG catches our attention here at Apocrypha Studios.
Eclipse Phase has done just that, amazing setting with endless scenario possibilities and great storytelling potential.

They have an interesting business model, releasing all their work under a creative commons license, which means its legal to copy, share, and remix their work so long as Posthuman Studios is attributed, and it is not for commercial purposes.

And it worked!  I nabbed the full PDF for free online, legally.
Looked it over, LOVED IT, and immediately ordered a print copy.
AND looking forward to getting my hands on their two new releases.

So... we got involved with a large online gaming community at RPOL.
Started playing, joined the GM team, and now running storylines and writing short fiction in the Eclipse Phase universe.
